Authors Note: Having enemies is a major setback when they interfere with you life, for Johnny it cost him his career.
Johnny Tremain a rising star in the silversmith world you could say. He knows almost every boy in town, weather friend, or enemy. There is one boy who absolutely wants to get rid of him and take his place. They call him Dove because no one knows his real name or will ever find out. When you create such mortal enemies and don’t worry about fixing the grudge it can cause major conflict and disruption.
Johnny is working and the most important build of his life. His master and caretaker allows him to work on a Sunday, back in the 1700’s it was though a mortal sin and against the law to work on the lord’s day. He needs everyone to help because he needs to finish, even Dove. Johnny asks for a metal pan type thing so he can melt the silver on the furnace. Dove deliberately hand him a cracked one. “Johnny took it into his trusting hands and placed it over the furnace” as the book describe it. He melted the silver and when he went to pick it up the molten silver split onto the furnace Johnny jumped back quickly, but he fell forward his hand and part of his head hit the silver. He woke up with his thumb attached to his palm.
After the unpleasant incident with his sworn enemy Johnny will never be a silversmith, he is heartbroken. His caretaker, are basically kicking him out onto the street, because he can’t do the work they need him to do anymore. He has no other training in anything else and will be hard to find something he can do. All because he never made time to resolve the problem between him and Dove.
